The year of 2019 falls upon the 20th anniversary of 921 Earthquake and 10th anniversary of Typhoon Morakot. Dharma Master Cheng Yen, the founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, once said that “with the occurrence of these alarming disasters, we must truly awaken to their lessons” Thus, to confront extreme climate change, we have to think thoroughly on how to respond and take action. The Fifth Tzu Chi Forum will focus on the natural disaster prevention, disaster reliefs, disaster reduction, and sustainable developments for the Mother Earth. It is a great opportunity to gather distinguished experts, scholars and practitioners worldwide and to communicate. As weather patterns have indeed become very erratic, it is needed for every person to care about this situation, take it as one of the most pressing issues to be addressed, and take action collectively so as to make a difference.
